Korean Poets' 'Romanticism'

A prestigious journalist interviewed an old poet living in a regional city. The journalist is famous for having been interviewing several persons through very deep inner inquiry and multi-lateral viewpoints over a long period. He is also writer that published his own novel in the past. But at this time my excitement was disappointingly shattered.

The interviewed story written on the full page constituted the old poet’s trifles with hard drinks and complaints towards the central literary circles of Seoul. The person who is said having written poems for 50 years owed his unknown to ‘the status of regional poets’.

What a grumbling about regionalism in the internet age! He appears to say that he should be ‘great’ poet that critics do not know the value of. Nevertheless, he never talked about poetic meaningful themes and creation.

Subsequently he referred to ‘romanticism’, which means ‘hard drinking’ in Korea literary circles. In other words, the poetic world is the one that a drunken poet sees, maybe the drunken world would be ‘romantic’ or ‘fantastic’. Most Korean poets seem to be false admirer for Li Taibo (李太白), who would not be pleased of their inferiority.

He also sneered at flashy knowledge of his poetry teacher, remembering in his literature classes. The reason he do not like his teacher is guessed in his saying context because the teacher explained French poets in class whose poems should have been difficult to understand.

Most Korean poets are so ignorant that they are always singing their home town, drinking hard. A few learned ones are at best ‘uncreative’ adorers of meditation, Nothing.

He might have thought earnest and heavy themes ‘useless’ or ‘meaningless’ in his higher poetry world. If so, he should have refused the interviewing proposal of the reporter. We readers do not want to hear his ‘romanticism’.

Korean pop, music, musical, drama, films, and art are elating their levels globally, at least recognized differentiated and unique places. But Korean literature lingers over a ‘literary youth’. How to be a literary adult:

Firstly, Korean writers must escape ‘infantile’ meditation and void abstract philosophy.

Secondly, Korean writers must not be proud of their ignorance about world literature classics.

Thirdly, Korean writers should leave their home town.

Fourthly, they should not write poems in a mood of alcoholic drinks. (The end)

The Abuse of Design Patent Kills Creativity

Apple is abusing design patent. Honestly It is doubtful whether design has to be in an area of patent or not.

Assume the next: A rich person built a Victorian residence in a suburb. Attracted by it, neighbors followed building or renewed their houses of the same style. Such the case, the rich person would sue the neighbors in charge of infringement. Is it persuadable?

Picasso first learned Impressionism and then created Cubism. During his living, many of many artists pursued Picasso’s paintings and styles. Picasso did not sue them, as long as they did not copy his pieces as it is.

Design is substantially derived of ‘beauty’ or ‘feeling’. The beauty and feeling are naturally easy to be alike. Therefore, design patent must be limited to very narrow conditions. It is believed common sense that the smartphones and tablets such that small size and functions are far from the narrow conditions available to design patent..

The concept of patent system concerns not ‘design’ (beauty and feeling), but technology, about which we can judge the originality scientifically and clearly.

If Apple claims are accepted, the patent system would be doubted, and more might be overruled as useless.

There is an Eastern proverb, “Too much is as bad as too little.” Patent system has contributed to the industrial advance. But the abuse of patent now is killing creativity and industry.

Apple has been seemed too proud of ‘design’ creativity, ‘who else can dare to create the same level of our design?’ We can confirm Apple’s self-pride seeing that it operates the enclosed app market excluding non-members. Steve Jobs seemed to stick to his success, which he thought depended upon the creative design. He could haven’t forgiven Samsung’s phones as looked like his design. He that was angry sued Samsung too emotionally. But he made a large mistake, ignoring the basic vulnerability of design patent.

‘Design’ is not a magic. If someone says their design is purely creative, he or she is a liar. Apple’s designers would have seen Sony’s. Perfect design creativity is really a fantasy or magic.

We live on one earth conditioned by the God, so that any giant cannot found their own ecosystem for themselves. If so, the artificial, profane market will be punished to the extinction.

We globizens live in the Internet age, the most remarkable feature of which is the diffusion of knowledge and information freely and swiftly.

The next (South Korea, Taiwan) or third (China) generation of developing countries would be following the western levels speedier than the first generation (Japan) did.

We must humiliate ourselves to keep the top. (The end)

Speed Management for Global Recession

Eurozone is more getting into the deep mire, let alone settle down. Even Germany’s credit was downward to ‘negative’.

The U.S.A also has been experiencing economic difficulties since opening this century due to the substantial weakness. To put it simply, the advanced countries themselves are collapsing collectively. Who do they owe the present situations to?

In my opinion, it might be the God’s penalty or the twilight of the great western civilization ending their given roles. It seems that the political leaders lost their confidence to control the laziness-accustomed people and voracious elites. In fact, too much loads are pressing down on the current politicians’ shoulders of the advanced countries.

Back to the principles! Tighten the belt. Do not worship the idols of modern knowledge and culture. Recover the Christianity.

NO one can know uncertain situations. In such a case, we should pay attention to present ones, and then immediately move on toward the near hills or valleys. We should not waste time to know the future more completely, which only belongs to the God. We are having a hand-to-hand combat.

In other words, we could name it ‘Speed Management’. In relation to ‘Speed Management’, Korea’s big companies are considered most competitive in the world, because we are always in a state of emergency, being the truce with the North Korea.

Korea’s big companies still maintain the attitude of learning anything valuable. They are very fast to inhale whatever global ones have. In Seoul, many business-related seminars take place continually all the year round.

I think that many economists’ advice of the advanced countries seems inimical to their healthy economy. The news media spread the harmful claims of the ‘false prophets’ such as money supply and quantitative easing. As we spent extravagantly, we should spend less and save more, and additionally we have to repent our sins like excessive consuming, unrestrained enjoying. (The end)

A New Solution for the Long Recession

It is needed that we know the exact state of the southern Europe. The European Crisis is owed to complex causes, which are the obsoleteness of capitalism, the collapse of excessive, irresponsible welfare system, the moral and ethical hazards of the southern European peoples. Therefore, the crisis cannot be solved within a short term, though Germany is forced to agree with something generous made by other debtors. It is simple that the debtors should tighten their own belts, but the politicians try to avoid some unwanted measures, and appease the people’s complaints temporarily.

It is really nonsense to think that Germany is able to bear the astronomical amount of debts. It may be possible, if the rest of world including the U.S.A., China, India, Brics, helps the eurozone. Unfortunately, they are pressed with their own economic problems.

The solution is to repent the past conducts, reduce the unnecessary spending, work harder. If so, they will earn the faith of the investment market, and then recover their competitiveness gradually. The other methods are only an anesthetic to postpone the pains and dishonor.

The plan of the eurozone is a complete mistake from the beginning. The eurozone is another utopian dream unrealizable like communism. The Europeans had a wrong fantasy that the big scale like the U.S.A. and China is better and stronger to them. As a matter of fact, the bigger one country is, the worse the wellbeing level of the individuals under the bigger country is. It is an obsessive complex toward a giant. Let’s look at the realities rationally.

First in the human history, we live in the global economy, which means the nearly perfect competition among the countries. Such the global economy is most advantageous to adequate scope of the country so that the bigger countries like the U.S.A., India, China, Russia, and eurozone become less competitive. The big four countries have cost tremendous sacrifices for their integration, nonetheless they fail to achieve the well-being of their individuals. Knowingly the big four countries are poorer than the smaller rich countries like Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Australia, Singapore, etc. The eurozone is going to walk in the opposite way. The big scope itself means ineffectiveness in terms of all areas, such as education, infrastructure, armies, bureaucracy, medicare, etc.

If the eurozone does not walk on the right way, they might be first historically thrown into the secondary region, not mainstream.

The advanced western economy is malfunctioned and obsolete in respect of structure and quality. They have little medium leveled quality of laborers, because they failed to educate the pupils in school. They have spent more than earned, which has made worsen their fundamentals gradually.

While they are tying down, new challengers like China ran after them. They lost the ground of manufacturing industries.

Today’s economic difficulties were not originated from economic problems, but social, educational, and political ones. It is ridiculous that you ask the economists of investment banks about the causes of present economic crisis. The economists say that if any condition is given to some situations, they naturally result in something. But the assumption is almost always changing. The assumption to not change is unrealistic.

The current crisis is incurred of moral, ethic, spiritual, and social problems. It is very limited for the government to solve the crisis. The political parties are too much affected by a few powerful interest groups, so the public interest is apt to be ignored and sacrificed in the political negotiations and decision-making processes. The most disappointed thing is that some critical issues are unsettled for a long time without deadline or compromised temporarily. As a result, the most suffered is the voiceless mass and public interest so that the competitiveness of the country or community is slowly weakened. This is the substance of the advanced countries’ crisis like the southern Europe, UK, and U.S.A.

What’s worse, the democratic capitalistic system seems unproductive compared with the ones of the state capitalism such as China, Russia, etc. In the global economic competition, is it consistently reasonable to say that democracy prevails over totalitarianism?

In the democratic system, politicians generally prefer votes and popular policies rather than difficult choices for public interests. But the autocrats in the state capitalistic systems sometimes make reasonable decisions for the long-term visions of the public, though they first of all endeavor to keep their power. The democratic systems are seen in a state of a kind obsoleteness and dysfunction. The operators and operated people under the democratic systems became irresponsible, lazy, self-conceited for their works. On the contrary, the autocrats are strugglers to hide and supplement their weak points. Now the democratic politicians of the rich dad’s sons are losing face before the ones of the poor dad’s sons.

Strangely, after the western society deserted Christian faith and believes the postmodernism based human reason, they suddenly became stupid lazy people. Especially, faithless Europeans turned playful workers with little expertise and knowledge.
Europe adopted socialism so that collective downward standardization has proceeded until now.

Modern economic contradiction is generated from excessive consumption and debt. Modern person is consuming more than makes money, and does not save their income. Speaking accurately, they have little money to save. As a result, they have remained little in their pocket.

The largest feature of the modern economy is polarization. How to lessen the polarization? The recipe is not institutionalization and policy for solving, but our human morality, ethics, and spirits.

The upper classes should contribute to the poor and public society through their wealth and conducts. The middle classes should make much efforts so that their level of living has to be narrowed with the one of the rich as much as possible. For this, the middle and upper classes must keep sound spirit and morality, getting away with postmodernism.

We should build a new human-centered economy, or community economy, which does not mean socialism. Socialism is simple equalization. The human economy is love, share and contribution under competition. It implies empathy economy. We could see the real mechanism in the ‘bazaar’. The merchants in the bazaar compete with one another, but help when members are suffering from something unbearable.

Socialism deprives the wealth of richer persons, consequently, the rich leave their community and do not work hard purposely. The sabotages of the rich only damage their community and the poor.

We must care the alienated and poor people. I call it ‘care capitalism’. Koreans have an inspired mind. They work hard as if they were possessed, whenever they feel empathy, love, and sharing.

We should recover our substance and basic purpose. We are plunged too much into instrumentalism like a tool, method, and convenience. We have to focus our mind for the balance. (The end)

Samsung's Revolution of HR Recruitment in Korea

Samsung has been famous for indiscrimination of academic background in Korea, while most companies still have excessive expectations about academic performances. It is known that Samsung does not permit forming the same school alumni fraternities. I believe that global competence of Samsung is owed to this indiscrimination of academic background, which is drawing the potentials of all workers to the utmost and loyalty to the company.

Korean society has the worst traditional habit that the people of the same academic school and same hometown are supporting and uniting one another almost unconditionally. The founder of Samsung, Baeng-Chul Lee, challenged the contemporary customs of academic cliques such that he chose newcomers in terms of their substantial abilities, possibilities, and personalities (sincerity etc.). His management slogan was the ‘Priority of Excellent Workers’. His son, present chairman of Samsung, has followed the slogan. Chairman Keun-Hee Lee tells his CEOs look for super talents globally, and stresses, “Do not be stingy about employing good HR.”

The workers of regional colleges account for 25-27%, which is higher compared with the other companies. Samsung recently said that they will increase the rate to 35%. For that, they will choose the alumni of regional colleges more than before.

Since about ten years, fortunately the discrimination of academic background has been gradually thinned in Korea. Why?

Firstly Many of young Koreans have entered much more excellent universities than Korea’s ones. They are being changed of a frog in the well. Secondly, they began to understand that experiences and creativity are more important than knowledge. In the basic stage of economic development, knowledge is a decisive element of competitiveness. Now in the more mature stage, they need expertise and creativity, which are formed in the work place, not in the school.

As a matter of fact, the last demand for education is from working places, most of which are companies. So big companies can change the bad perceptions such as discrimination of academic background. Big companies could become a facilitator for social advances, not a receiver of prejudices.

Samsung is worth being praised because of this recruiting change. It is expected that other big companies follow this trend. (The end)

Prepare for Post-Eurozone

Almost all seers begin to think that the eurozone runs to the dead alley. Now in retrospect, the vision and implementation of the eurozone seem to be too ideal, being too optimistic about individual nations’ collective selfishness. Can the eurozone that German economy power and political influences prevail over be kept on and accepted patiently by other members?

In economic world, there are or there have to be rich nations, middle-leveled ones, and poorer ones. In one country there are also several differences in terms of individual wealth. Therefore, they always compete with one another, entice large or small pieces of dissention, so that we need political action. Physically, the larger a country is, the severer its conflicts are. The typical examples are China, U.S.A., and Russia, India. Generally peoples and politicians have wrong fantasy that superpowers would be unconditionally good for themselves. No, the reality is the opposite. A superpower has to be worth it so that it is forced to be entailed into wars and bloody strife.

Europeans could not forget the old Roman Empire. They missed the glory of Western Imperialism in their deep hidden minds. They had wanted to build a new Roman Empire, which competes over U.S.A, China, Russia, India, etc. It is going to be judged a great chicanery. Their lethal mistake was to adopt one currency. They should have been contented with becoming a union of the similar political and diplomatic policy. The unique economic union was a fallacious choice.

I was impressed with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, through which I confirmed the power and effectiveness of the British identity. European people like the British have their own identity and pride of living in the regions and countries. It is unimaginable that they give up their pride, culture, and identity for the real economic benefit. The more the eurozone is becoming a country by fiscal consolidation, the more the eurozone will be Germanized. If so, the other member countries can permit the new economic hegemony? This is a baloney. And also Germans will feel that they work more and pay tax more. Can they bear this unfairness continuously? Although the fiscally consolidated eurozone can be formed, the authority has to spend the days on disputing economic policies.

The U.S.A. had needed tens of years forming the present clear authority. The eurozone could endure such a long way?

In my opinion, the eurozone tried to walk the opposite. Yes, we need the peace and harmony, but its condition is more real and effective under small and diverse scale of countries rather than superpowers.

Someone says that the euro need a ‘Marshall Plan’ once again. Maybe it might be right. The U.S.A. and the rest of the world might have to offer the second Marshall Plan, in order to save the eurozone. (The end)

It Is Meaningless For News To Be Free Or Not

As Warren Buffett recently bought 26 local newspapers in a row, it is again sparking the debate surrounding free of news.

One online reporter says, “Every Twitter user is potentially a journalist. Every blog author is publisher.” I want to answer it. “Twitter user is not a journalist, bloger is not a author or publisher.” Because they do not make a living on that job. We can make my table or seat at home, but we are not called carpenter.

If one online news company maintains their business by free news, that’s OK. No problem. They have users enough to read the free news, therefore, to attract advertisers.

Since the Internet age, general people are satisfied with free news such as TV news, online news, underground freesheets. Honestly most people do not feel the necessity of high quality news. But leaders, entrepreneurs, professionals, investors, and higher ranks of corporate persons willingly pay higher quality of news. These higher classes understand very well the business logic that good quality news needs efforts, time, and money. Therefore, they do not hesitate to buy quality news.

Now it is meaningless to debate free or not. Charged or free news has its own target. It can be simply defined that charged news is informative one, while free news is publicizing one. Charged news would be economic one, while free news is political, social, or cultural one. If any free news organization can offer free informative economic news, who cares? If any online news companies can offer volunteers’ reports or curated ones free of charge, then visitors’ number reaches the advertisers’ requirements, who picks a fight with you?

It’s about twenty years since the internet news has been serviced normally. Now quitting the exhaustive debate of ‘free news’, each of news companies should develop their own creative biz models and foster management expertise.

A professor predicted that local papers could close in the next 10 years. In fact, among today’s catastrophic changes, the prospect after 10 years should be a kind of deception. Although he might be an expert of technology, his mention is sure to be ignorant of culture and scientific philosophy governing the technology.

Generally seeing, such experts related to internet, IT, communications subtly speak haughtily, while the ones of other scientific and technological fields say carefully. (The end)

Now when Murdock's Tabloidism Quitting the Stage

It reveals that Murdock has used the journalists as his private soldiers illegal for his desires. It is not important whether Murdock has had a deep relation with the hacking. The really evil thing is he did tabloid journalism

News media have public nature, which is a feature clearly different from the other corporations. The news, analysis, and column themselves give impact on societies and the world.

As a matter of fact, owners of news media are apt to become an absolute magnate like Murdock, whom everybody is flattering or trembling in the front of. All the celebrities were afraid of Murdock’s two tabloids. The overused the power, and at last drank the lethal poisonous glass, the hacking.

Could it be said that Murdock’s two tabloids have only been loyal in satisfying the people’s curiosity? Almost all people have some flaws, let alone celebrities. It cannot be exempt from cruelly reporting private lives of celebrities or even general people, as the mass like the sensational stories. The freedom of the press is not guaranteed unlimitedly.

It is surprised as Korea’s journalist that the tabloid exploited a private investigator customarily. In Korea, such a job of private investigators is not permitted because of the abuse or misuse. I thought the rejection of private investigators’ introduction is a little excessive concern, but this hacking case changed my generosity. The private investigator is playing to a linkage between the news media and the police, though they should balance and check each other. It is a very threatening thing to democracy.

The general level of journalism of the advanced countries like Britain and U.S.A is much better than the one of Korea, especially in terms of detailed accuracy and several, objective facts. They, however, have a blemish, that is tabloids. In Eastern morality-ethics standard, sensationalism of tabloids seems similar to pornography, which expresses obsessive desires.

Westerners, whether intellectuals or grass-rooters, are likely to easily forget the virtue of balance. They crazily like or dislike celebrities. In Eastern societies, general people think that they themselves are able to become celebrities, especially in Korea and China. The Koreans and Chinese ended their dynasties about 100 years ago. Koreans do not show obsession with celebrities. Honestly whenever I see the Sun during visiting Britain, I felt disgusting about the cover. I always admire British quality broadsheets very much.

The worst point of sensational journalism is to dismantle the societies gradually and continuously, and as a result the competitiveness and community spirit of societies are falling down. All the human-made institutions and regimes have to be corrupt and degraded so that they must be remedied or punished in case of being deviated on the balanced road.

In Korea, too, sensational tabloids exist, but they have little effects on our society. Because their reports are not believed by anyone. The reports’ titles are boisterous, but have little concrete facts, full of guessing. Murdock’s tabloids did work too well, even mobilizing hacking. It might be good to their revenue, but surely be the worst to the society and people. (The end)

Facebook That Let Small Investors Sad

Facebook’s IPO seems an almost thorough trickery, which is likely to be cunningly manipulated based irresistible greed and hasty realization of wealth.

They hid the negative research report and shared it with only their few favored clients. And they offered too high price and issued too many shares, which is general experts’ opinions.

In terms of the Internet history, Facebook can be classed a kind of an emotion model. Google is a benefit-ads model; Yahoo and Naver are an information platform one; Apple is a content platform and appliances model. MS is a SW appliances, and information platform one; Samsung and Nokia are an appliances one. Amazon is a physical goods and contents delivery one.

Facebook and twitter are the last evolved model, which features human’s connections (social networking) grounding emotions, memories, and feelings. For this, Facebook and SNS are considerably different from the other previous internet models. Maybe Yahoo would be most similar to or parent of SNS.

Facebook has an emotion element so that it has spread the world in a very short time. But there couldn’t find out a definite profit model after almost connecting the world. It sounds natural to me.

In Facebook we can obtain no information. We can obtain friends’ advice and recommends immediately by mobile. I am always afraid whether my private information exposes or not, though I want to search for old friends.

Facebook is not a hub (platform), but only a dot. If we try to contact someone we want by dot to dot, it takes longer time to search for the person or it couldn’t work.

Facebook might follow in the footsteps of Korea’s ILoveSchool and Cyworld to which Koreans at first paid huge attention but now disappeared or diminished to one fifth PV(page view) of this year compared to the previous year.

The ‘connection’ itself cannot become a profit model, should be added something useful or noticeable to users.

In my opinion, Facebook, Twitter, Cyworld, big Communications companies all are trapped in crisis. Especially, the big communications companies of their own countries touch all the areas, without their unique competitive services or contents. They run tens or hundreds of businesses under the brand of their communications.

Now being in the stage of media segmentation, individual companies should review their competitiveness, and then strengthen their uniqueness and character. (The end)

The Economy of Mind

It can be said that today’s economic crises are rooted in our minds. Abundance itself generates several mental problems, which is the very moral hazards such as laziness, envy, waste, levity, diabolism, etc.

The rapid advance of science and technology demands the humans’ surrender to the tools and methods. Modern youngsters seem totally dependent upon the mobile phone or tablet. The economic development ironically enlarges the rift between the wealth and the rest rather than before.

Media also aggravate the situation. Media provide the people with consumerism and sensationalism. Some says extremely that the media in fact control our organization, institutions, and individual lives.

Despite these circumstances, diverse social and economic policies by governments have been busted mostly. Small northern European countries seem to only maintain the government’s faces.

Let’s look at this in detail. The richer we are, the more we spend on the expensive commodities and going at luxuriant restaurants. This incites the price level to increase highly. Then news media make fuss why the government does not stabilize the high prices. The pressed government goes down the prices, importing overseas by using emergent budgets, which increase government’s debts. Politicians having their terms prefer short-term popular policies to long-term strict ones. As a result, the governmental public debts have been amassed. We see now eurozone crises and Japan’s credit degradation.

We should first of all heal and correct our minds. We need mind’s policies urgently. We should not expect that comprehensive school education can do its role, or news media carry out such a function. No! Secularization, management-centralism, and competition drive the so called public organizations out of the normal tracks.

Government’s interference in the people’s minds might remind us of the past totalitarian governments. The relation between morality-ethics and politics has its long, bloody history. It is because religious factions have thought their monopolistic authority on morality-ethics. The Religion removed, instead Nazism and militarism had the position for a while. There come the democratic societies where the despotism was expelled after the World War 2. The democratic societies were not ‘the end of history’.

In democratic advanced societies, postmodernism and vulgar mass cultural commercialism occupied the place of religion, philosophy, and totalitarianism. The depravation of the morality-ethics have gradually made the economic achievements a great empty shell. At last the ‘old-fashioned’ national capitalism is threatening the democratic economic system now. If the national capitalism prevails over the free economic regime, it is a retreat of our mankind history. For this, the economy of mind is needed imminently. (The end)

The Segmentation of the New Media

Facebook shares dropped 12 percent to $33.76 – below the company’s final $38 price in the public offering last week. Yesterday all the news media made a great fuss about the steep drop.

The drop looked no shocking to me. Why? In Korea, Facebook bubbled up. Many people registered their names, but they hardly use it. Koreans came to know the serious leak of privacy, and there is no information in it except for unexpected visits by forgotten acquaintances. We can’t find out reasons to stay long.

The people are confronting too many choices. They are looking at the screen of mobile devices, bending the head, not seeing the street through the bus window. Younger persons really are too busy to check the new media deeply related with their lives. Soon they should be forced to divide the time available shorter.

The media segmentation is looming up out of the confused, fierce competition. How do the media companies deal with this new situation?

The media companies must, first of all, concentrate on their own core competitiveness. While neglecting the core, many companies spread their new business areas. This greedy extension reduces the life span.

As soon as most Korea’s companies got the first success, they are not satisfied with their main commodities or services, and hurry to extend to neighboring areas. They excuse such an overflowing for the narrow local market scale. That makes sense a little, however, they are too voracious and ignorant of the basic business essence.

Secondly, they must strengthen their unique character and brand identity more than before. In terms of ‘character’, Google, Amazon, MS, Samsung, Facebook, Twitter is stable, but Apple and Sony is unstable.

In the meantime, any companies can enter into an emerging market. Presently the biggest emerging market is ebook. Ebook market still does not have big hands of which no one account for over the half of it. In the ebook, there are no reasons for which any one does not participate. In the U.S. ebook market, now 4 companies of deep pockets are severely fighting for the more occupying.

Amazon is preparing for entering Korea this year. Korea’s companies related to book, communication, internet portal are trembling in the tremendous changes to come. Korea’s ebook interested parties do not yet agree with some common devices. Part of the disagreement is due to too fast and frequent development of several devices. I think that some users and authors could welcome Amazon, by which they easily have the opportunity to contact the world content market. (The end)

The Unquestioned Rule of Journalists' Writings

For the last one year one podcast had stirred up the nation and Korea’s media circles. The hosts attacked the living power including President Lee and exposed their wrongdoings with the filthy and vulgar language. The book one host published rolled on the bestseller lists. Even another host ran a candidate of the opposition party of National Assembly at the last April election.

The one year’s drama of the podcast, sarcastically titled ‘Naneun Ggomsuda (I’m a Petty Trickster)’, suddenly ended as if many fans come to know and are disappointed with the real appearance of their loved stars unmasked from their make-up and powdered face.

The podcast spoke out the unproven facts without hesitation. Their expression of political preferences was so overt that their language is beneficial for the opposition party and progressive forces, but hostile against the ruling party and conservative forces.

In the position of the general readers, since the internet age the frank, emotional, outspoken, aggressive, subjective language looks fresh, while the authoritative, rational, high-browed, objective one looked obsolete, even an anachronism. This changed taste of the general people gave especially large impact on the traditional media and journalists. Some hasty and younger journalists mimicked the new born writing styles and even became passionate followers toward the emotional and subjective styles.

All things have an end. We humans are forced to learn some lessons after making mistakes.

There need different writing styles for different media, that’s right. But journalism has a rule that defines its existence. Its rule is ‘objectivity’. The journalists’ reports are the same as the written judgment, government’s official writ, a detective’s record, a valid contract. It’s not a novel, poet, column, speech, argument made on the ground of ‘subjectivity’.

We must remember that ‘journalism has a suffix of ‘ism’, which means a belief. The belief of journalism is the objectivity that all persons can accept. Of course, the complete objectivity could be impossible enough, nonetheless the journalists must seek for the truth, facts, evidences, eliminating their own biases. If they do not like these things, they should search for other jobs.

At last recently the general people seem to know that SNS and the emotional writings, flashy pieces of marketing are only a passing wave. Journalism is a practical tool-like belief and agreement. If we abandon journalism, we will be inconvenient, what’s worse, we should be in a world of falsehood, distortion, and lies.
Then the Lord said to me, “The prophets are prophesying lies in my name. I have not sent them or appointed them or spoken to them. They are prophesying to you false visions, divinations, idolatries and the delusions of their own minds. (Jeremiah 14:14) (The end)

The Fatal Attraction

Super Junior, one of Korea’s most popular boy bands, got together 110,000 spectators at the May 12 and 13 concert of Tokyo Dome. Tokyo Dome is an Asia’s symbolic place of the huge music performance. Last March the agency of Super Junior received applicants to see by mobile, which astonishingly reached about 400,000, and obliged to pick out 110,000 among them because of limited space.

Lady Gaga’s three days concert of the same month in Japan collected 60,000 fans. We couldn’t help compare these two concerts, featured the foreign but different styles and natures.

According to the Eastern view of the nature, Super Junior is Yang, while Gaga is Yin. Super Junior consists of 13 young boys, therefore, their voices and dancing express strong masculinity. They are pouring enormous male hormone, which makes secrete female one.

Gaga is a mutant of Madonna, the ‘ominous’ acme of postmodernism. Madonna and Gaga represent the returning of the prehistoric matrilineal society. But whether being conscious or unconscious, they have been putting themselves into the third hybrid of male and female sexes. From the opposite starting line, Michael Jackson evolved into the same post. During the last 20-odd years, the neutralism have governed the world, now the fans feels tired of their repetitive shouting, swearing, pornography.

Super Junior sings simple love, routine happiness with no cynicism and unconditional refusal towards the modern world. Super Junior, unimaginably 13 boys, are dancing and singing with earnestness and levity. They show mass game and do not hesitate mimicking celebrities like Steve Jobs, Hulk Hogan, Marilyn Monroe, Superman. They are deserting the conceited interpreter’s role of postmodernism, willingly serving the place of the traditional party boys.

The third sex makes weaken the desire of reproducing and breeding, then evaporate some earthly hopes and dreams gradually. It is analogous to the same phenomena that in the monastery or temple aren’t there little invention, discovery, creation. That processing is a road to extinction, end of ours. Do you want this really?

We humans have the limitation, must perceive it thoroughly. The moment we transcend the marginal line, our existence is immersed into the disassembled state of the borderless world. Crossing the line, we cannot come back to the limited, but sometimes happy lives by the second law of thermodynamics.

Postmodernism can be said a reconnaissance of Buddhism, Babylonian and Brahman pantheism, etc. The material civilizations grounding these spiritual perceptions disappeared in the BC. Why? They themselves do not want and need the material developments and civilizations. Today we only see some hereditary festivals and holy documents.
The God says firmly, ‘the limit to the humans’. Because the God loves them, and wants them to enjoy some happiness as a human during remaining on the earth temporarily.

The same-sex is to cross the unauthorized line. I could recognize it their human rights, but the community recognizing it officially might be on the course of extinction. (The end)

The Courage of Businessmen

As the world businessmen seem to be crazy about Myanmar’s democratizing steps, FT indicates, ‘You should not get carried away about it’.

FT says: Myanmar’s output is two-fifths that of Vietnam. Its workforce is unskilled because the annual spending on education is half that on defence. So it means hard for foreign investment to capitalize on the country’s low wage levels – half of those of Vietnam and a fifth of China’s. Public sector corruption is the worst in the world after North Korea and Somalia. Infrastructure is poor, yet public opposition to construction is rising. Especially, FT is concerned that Myanmar’s military hates being marginalised. FT reminds us the past ‘ominous’ conduct that the military government cracked down the last time the country opened up, in the 1990s, halting foreign trade reforms.

The objective sight by the economic press seems reasonably plausible, but if I dare say the one of business is thought unreasonable.

First of all, this is the very unskilled and low-wage workforce that the developed and developing countries are looking for. This simple and cheap workforce lacking in investors’ countries I couldn’t help telling Myanmar’s competitiveness.

When South Korea started the economic plans in the 1960s, public sector corruption was as very serious as today’s Myanmar is. As the grade of the corruption in South Korea is now a lot reduced, it still remains. The transparency is the ideal vision, but the reality is different. In the lush forest surely do poisonous mushrooms exist. Exactly saying, in the advanced countries there are the instituted and structured corruption such as financial moral hazards, excessive welfare and consumerism, abundant sex and porno industries etc.

Poor infrastructure is a massive opportunity rather than a weak point. It is a hasty prospect that halting foreign trade reforms in the 1990s could happen again. The 1990s has passed a long time ago. The military regime might have not agreed with the speed of opening up, but not the establishment and people seems postponing the reforms no longer.

In my opinion, it is guessed the military government takes the initiative of this reform, not enforced by Aung San Suu Kyi and her party.

The present military power might be modeling the Park Jung-hee government of the South Korea President of the 1960s and 70s. Maybe the military government could think their reform is more efficient, appropriate, and realistic than the one of the democratic government of Aung San Suu Kyi. Which way will be chosen depending on the people.

Anyway, businessmen must find invisible opportunities which general people and depthless scholars do not see. In Numbers of the Bible, only 2 persons, Joshua and Caleb, among 12 ones correctly evaluated the facts and truth, in exploring the land of Canaan.

Western businessmen do not have as much courage and passion as their ancestors. In the western economy there subtly seem full of heavy and big brains nowadays. (The end)

The Causes of Sony Difficulties

Sony’s problem, if speaking by one word, is ‘failure of sustainability’. The ‘sustainability’ is whoever wants to have it, as if humans wish to live forever. As an organization or a society or a nation which many persons and generation by generation can involve, those are not thought impossible to live continuously. But what those realize ‘sustainability’ is a very, very difficult thing.

What is the first impressive feature when seeing Sony and the other big companies, which once had had their tremendous competition in the world? It looks an excessive self-pride. Historically, we already know the Japanese pride, Kamikage, hara-kiri (disemboweling oneself). They dislike ‘humiliation’, ‘defeat’, so choose suicide.

The ‘sustainability’ begins by recognizing ‘defeat’ ‘mistake’ ‘fault’. The ‘sustainable’ organization thinks that ‘suicide’ is not a solution, but only self-extinction.

The Japanese self-pride achieved the climax of their technologies, but the culminating position itself deters needed innovation.

Today in the knowledge and information age, the learning and diffusion of edgy technologies are too easy and speedy, moreover the technology is only an element of the whole resources. As a matter of fact, scholars willingly teach their foreign descendants their knowledge, and entrepreneurs transfer their technology and factories to emerging countries for their profit. Also, you are not able to hamper the contributions of retired engineers and managers. In other words, the Japanese strong points can be said not differentiated ones.

Despite this circumstance, Sony seems obsessive about technologies and external influences of high technologies. Why is their sight so narrow and stuffy? Easterners are not yet accustomed to science, truth, and universal value. They stick to old-fashioned values like national power and empire authority. They do not consider individual happiness, study for the truth itself. Due to these thinking frame and poorness of value goals, the Japanese, the most excellent student among the Eastern countries, hastens to run after anyone’s heels.

In my opinion, South Korea, China, and India should confront the long recession caused by the lack of sustainability earlier than Japan now experiences.

Easterners must still learn philosophy, methodology, systematic ways of thinking from the Westerner. Do not say ‘The Asia Era.’ (The end)

The Foreboding of the Prosperity Dying

As it is not a perfectly consistent theory, there is a generally recognized belief that how magnificent the wealth of a person or country is, it does not go beyond the third generation.

What is the first sign of its weakening? It is thought the time when the divorced couples and singles increase. The abnormalities of marriage and family certainly make the society stressful and aggressive on another. Though it is disliked to accept for the collapse of families to lower the competitiveness of a country, it is an undeniable truth.

Prof. Hyeon Yong-Su, Tamud’s pundit, published a new book titled, “The Secret of One Body As a Man and a Woman That the Bible Explains”. He studied how to reduce the divorce rates for a long time. This new book is the conclusion of his long efforts and thinking about how to choose the spouse that would not take apart.

First of all, he introduced an ideal bride, referred in the traditional Jewish communities. An ideal bride is required the three characteristics, sympathy, faithfulness, kindness.

He modernized the Talmudic wisdom and Biblical teachings to the seven conditions for the spouse:
1. Match the belief of religion.
2. Choose the spouse that has the same spiritual and emotional levels.
3. See the character.
4. Place importance on sincerity and abilities within a man, internal beauty within a woman.
5. Look for the spouse who has learned a musical instrument, calligraphy, and tea ceremony.
6. Consider your coming child’s appearance, body, and mind.
7. Avoid such the mate who is easily enticed by skinship.

President Obama recently endorsed same-sex marriage. The issue of gay marriage in the U.S.A. seems to be decorated with the value of human rights or progressiveness. Obviously we humans seem to walk beyond the ‘dangerous’ line the God cannot persevere. It came out that the God might choose the other nations unknown to us. (The end)

The Real Crises of Europe Have Come

French people rejected the austerity. If they had chosen Sarkozy, France and Europe economy will have clearly recovered in the present mire though in a slow pace.

Now the fate of France, Greece, and Europe is proceeding in the deeper darkness, and each of EU members is going to struggle to survive for self.

Honestly, I thought that French people would be different from the Greek. The result was the same, though Hollande won over Sarkozy in a small votes.

Generally people don’t see themselves. Physically seeing the self is impossible, whether the local people know the scenes and problems very well or not. This is a matter of judgment and angle, also concerned with psychological unrest. Therefore, outsiders’ advices are beneficial to the people concerned. It is not a matter of the world leadership, great pride of the French Revolution. You have to open your ears as a patient listens to a doctor’s words.

What do you think of the ‘Austerity’? The austerity is not a punishment, but a sour medicine, which is surely going to heal the patients. You have spent too much on basis of your income. Your vacation was too long. I think the Austerity is a kind of ‘dieting’ for the obese persons. It is not a complicated, humiliating problem. Nonetheless, the French conducted themselves emotionally and, furiously.

Hollande, in his campaign, promised to hire teachers and raise taxes on the wealthy. Teachers are the typical cause of over-budgets, In the Internet and green-economy age, teachers should be diminished and rearranged to the other value-added industries. And the wealthy are not the cause of the present economic crises. Generally the wealthy are working during the vacation, while the middle-leveled people are enjoying it freely and lightly. If the government raises the taxes on the wealthy, they enjoy the vacation the same time as the middle, without innovating businesses. The burdens on the wealthy will lead to the thin pockets of the general people.

After French and Greek elections, many experts’ tone on the media seemed different, looked like more rhetoric, less antagonistic. Why? The outsiders who will be also affected by the European economy are beginning to distance them to protect their interest. The experts are thinking they do not need to have awkward relationships with Europe, which would be fallen behind the normality. (The end)

We Produce 'Culture'?

A Korea’s big company announced its slogan recently, ‘We Produce Culture’. Seeing the announcement, I felt a little nauseous and disgusting. It is awful that commercialism makes use of ‘culture’ impudently in this way.

If you produce ‘culture’, a singer, film director, actor, author, philosopher, conductor are your workers?

The meaning and scope of ‘Culture’ cover all lifestyles, philosophy, science, engineering, factory, cities, races, folklores, etc. Culture is analogous to an almost all-fit key. So a pseudo-intellect is apt to be packed an expert in culture. But, it is nonsense to say that he/she is identified as an expert in culture. Because one person cannot nearly cover and know ‘culture’. I do not say there never exist such persons reaching it. Becoming an expert in culture is really similar with being a calm, full but humble, cool state obtained after the long journey of storm and stress.

What is most ‘cultural’? If anyone has three features such as variety, humility, uniqueness at the same time, we can call him ‘cultural’. ‘Culture’ is a state, organism, phenomenon, not a product to be made.

So ‘culture’ is ‘how to deal with and be applied’, not ‘how to produce.’ Culture is a living being, characteristic of ‘change’, ‘structure’, and ‘interrelation’.

If we produce a commodity or offer a service, we have to match the cultural factors concerned with it. Of course, we should not ignore the moves of the whole culture.

Culture has the opposite forces, to change and to keep order. These conflicts are combined with the other forces and the larger surrounding ones such that the grades of the change are determined and different respectively at the time and space.

Culture can be said ‘long-term based climate’ and ‘daily based weather’. Therefore, as we are not able to control the climate and weather, we do not produce ‘culture’. To do best is only to accept and exploit it with good heart. (The end)

Do You Know Great Power's Disease?

All the countries and people are mesmerized by the enormous sizes and fastest speed of Chinese economic achievements. The secret of the magnificent growth considerably lies in the huge sizes, which make grow other companies and industries consecutively, and moreover one another. As a result, the Chinese economy is building colossal skyscrapers, gigantic cranes-lined docks, immense manufacturing districts, etc. Historically, such the Chinese advance velocity and volumes seems unimaginably massive more than the ones of the emerging U.S.A economy in the early 20th century.

However, there is an important difference between today’s China and the rising U.S.A of the early 20th century. The new U.S.A had the Puritan morality more than the old Europe, while China does not have such a moral excellence that the other countries give respect to.

Such Chinese economic growth gives fears to neighboring countries, because they are increasing military power and generate territorial conflicts overtly.

Chinese threatening power is putting the neighboring countries in the situation strengthening military relationship with the U.S.A.

In fact, ‘greatness’ itself could be a poison to them owning it. ‘Greatness’ means ‘above appropriateness’, therefore, it leads to unnecessary costs. The weakening of the U.S.A. is nothing but the accumulation of unnecessary costs such as a series of wars and maintenance of great power.

Physically ‘greatness’ means the distancing of networks and focusing on the central point, therefore as it goes on and on, its inefficiency and ineffectiveness loom up gradually.

So, I give advice to you the next: Slow down the speed, and enjoy the power slowly, getting well along with neighbors.
In Europe, the three big powers of Great Britain, France, and Germany experienced the two World Wars, being in search of the forever empirism. The U.S.A and Russia also have had little peace even after the Second World War.

'Greatness’, ‘Racism’, ‘Nationalism’ and ‘Patriotism’ only require huge blood and sacrifices in exchange of ephemeral self-respect.

In the 21st century, we must discard the win-or-lose mindset inherited from the 20th century. Let us all live together and solve the climatic catastrophe. A small island like a palm is really important to fight for each other? Pumping up oil in the sea contributes to its grass rooters’ well-being? If so, Russian people must have been the richest in the world. Natural resources should form a very few oligarchs, regardless of the general people.

Our global citizens must drive out the bad politicians, irresponsible instigators, and wicked ideologues. (The end)

Big Data? Do not Deceive the Mass again

Pascal said in his book ‘Pensees’, “Man is only a reed, the weakest in nature, but he is a thinking reed.”
In the Eastern thinking frame, a human is assumed a small universe, compared with the nature, the great universe.
It seemed there are many levels of scientists, from sublime ones to businessperson-like ones. The businessperson-like ones endeavor to exploit the results of more basic theories for making big money.

We don’t negate the profitability of the commodities and services produced out of scientific researches, and have no intention criticizing about them. But we could not see that they exaggerate the commercial possibilities before the ‘credulous’ mass.

Big Data? Baloney! It is argued that Big Data can know all the consumers’ minds. It could be patient to argue that part of consumers’ minds can only be identified momentarily or in a very short-term. That’s it. Do not cross the line. Humans are affected by several factors like ‘reeds’, and moreover have their own wills.

It is surmised that all information among all peoples on the earth are collected and can be analyzed meaningfully, and predict their consuming conducts exactly. Is it possible? In my opinion, it is certain that all the information is just a sum of ‘rubbishes’. If Big Data technology is able to know the minds of all the consumers, the universe does not surely keep its order or exist for a few seconds.

The other day a few of colleagues invited me to have a lunch. They over-drank alcoholic liquors over eating, only talking about making money and complaining corporate politics. Generally, we forget having enough to live on daily and humbly thanking for them. Businessperson-like scientists are full of big bang of making money, materialism, marketing-centralism, and media attention. Their excessive desires tarnish the intelligence and reason, as the much liquors hypnotized my colleagues.

In addition, there is one thing which we have to indicate. That is personal privacy. Why does a company collect all the information of one person? By what right do they amass individual words, emails, chatting contents, etc. (The end)

The Age of Excess

The world’s financial crises derived from the Wall Street were, as known to everyone, due to greed of bankers and investors. The agonizing European economic difficulties are also owed to excessive welfare systems made by ‘populists’ politicians, and the people spent the ‘free’ budget without guilt or concerns.

Today modern persons, especially in the developed countries and middle-leveled countries like South Korea, consume all products and services extravagantly. Their consumption is boosted by ads and PR by way of the media. The media give an illusion to the general people that they might become like stars. Internet and mobile let the consumers’ purses exhaustively hollow.

It is assumed that companies themselves are riding one-wheel cycle of growing. If they stop growing, some economists say that the companies should fall to the ground immediately like one cycle. They claim that ‘maintenance’ is ‘retreat’. Is that right?

In a short-term, the claim might be logical, but any country keeping economic growth is possible? Moreover, almost all of the countries on the earth are presently running toward the economic growth. The outcome of growth is the excessive uses of natural resources and tremendous pollution, as we see the evidence in the melting Arctic and Antarctic poles. Really considerable economists conduct themselves like false prophets.

On walking in the park, I saw a dog with its owner. It looked safe and happy compared with the wild beasts. The dog does not need to be hungry and attacked to death. The owner gives meals and shelter to the dog every day. The wild animals have to keep hunting or eating something for survival. The God gives meals enough to live with dignity as long as we work sincerely and make a living decently. Nonetheless we are crazy to eat and spend too much, forgetting our already known instructions. Behaving ourselves like wild beasts, ironically, we feel ‘excessive unrest’ .
Stop growing does not imply stopping work. We can imagine ‘sublime life style’ and ‘empathy thoughts’ living with other peoples, animals, and nature together.

Luxury brands and expensive supper make your minds feel stable? Say to your inner mind loudly, ‘No!’. Greed will lead to more thirst. (The end)

What the Incident of Bo Xilai and Gu Kailai teaches

What the Incident of Bo Xilai and Gu Kailai teaches

Today we around the world see the deepest downfall of a famous powerful couple. It is as much dramatic as the movie-like personal lives of the couple overlapped with the contradiction of the rising Chinese power system.

As Bo Xilai’s father was purged from all the positions during the Cultural Revolution, he had also experienced sufferings in the countryside in his adolescent teen age, estranged from the prestigious high school in Beijing. After the Death of Mao Zedong, his father, Bo Yibo, was rehabilitated and held vice premier to the peak,

Bo Xilai showed his ability markedly during the mayoral office of Dalian City. But he deserted his first wife, the taboo of Eastern Confucian customs. Also he seemed to go against the main stream, running the Red Culture movement. Especially, his style seemed to remind the present opposite power group of the past fearful and ominous foreboding of the Cultural Revolution.

Certainly the Authorities will expose the truth and a few causes in detail. The Chinese political recruitment for the Politburo has been a mystery for a long time to the outside. Bo’s incident shed light on the dark side of the Politburo and members. What are its implications to us?

It is, one person should not have both political power and wealth simultaneously. Because what the politicians earn much money means they use their power of the official positions and networks, make unfair or arbitrary implementation of regulation and law.

Business as a tool of surviving or secular success has a nature of a living organism, which exploits the most advantageous and efficient one among all the resources available. If the political power (which is in fact most effective) is mostly available for the business persons, the profitable model is naturally developed into the political power-centered connections.
In the democratic societies, too, the scandals like this kind of incidents sometimes break out. In Korea, now two big figures who are reckoned respectively mentor and former powerful assistant close to the contemporary President are being investigated in suspect of bribery by the Prosecution.

There is nothing but transparency for the solution. The transparency is to check and balance among the political powers, and freedom of speech and publishing.

If the bad connections are not revealed in public and cut out at the earlier stage, the connections are institutionalized and proceeded in a criminal phase. (The end)

Curation is Valuable to the Community?

Curation is valuable to the Community?

As a matter of fact, news and information shown on the traditional news media are not perfect substantially. Therefore, someone’s curating the news and information of the other media would indispensably keep the people at a farther distance from the real truth. The journalists with self occupational morality are only seeking for finding out the truth.

Curators are proud of their sense, intelligence, effectiveness, and efficiency, but are only cunning, intelligently middle-leveled, deceptive, speedy to obtain others’ efforts, lazy to make their own endeavors.

Curation is a sort of a business tool for making money under the internet-centered communication. Curation is not journalism, the curators do not produce something new, and exploit journalists’ products. They seem to be similar with wicked private bankers of the Wall Street, exploiting deposits and taxes.

Anyway, journalism is also an evolving being. It has the fourth periods of the development and changes. In the first one, the news media only carried the big or small incidents’ news and events’ stories. At the second period, they expressed their opinions or sights with the straight news and analyses. They stood for or against the political parties overtly. The third form is the objective model, which was evolved naturally from the second one for the broader readership and revenues. The just born television adopted the objective model. Now is on the fourth change, which is destroying the objective model of news media. While the curators of the internet are diffusing journalists’ products at a light speed shamelessly, the business grounds of news media have been collapsed in the deepest dark holes.

News media have two elements, facts reporting and critical analysis. The curation made the reporting facts of news media little valuable commercially. As a result the news media is returning to the third form, i.e. the subjective and sectarian model. Because the sectarian voices can at least keep the limited readerships, in the circumstance of being unable to get the broader people through the objective model. In the U.S.A, even some televisions and radios deserted the neutral and objective attitude, satisfying the separate viewers. Seeing the present situation, sectarian model is kicking the neutral news media into making adopting the same one.

Curation is substantially a sectarian model. So the curators and the returned sectarian news media are in fact separating the bonding linkage of the community.

In Korea, Naver, the tremendously powerful portal, is exploiting journalism profitably. Naver rapidly grew out of the curation of news reportings and netizens’ knowledge. In my opinion, the knowledge contribution of general users seemed to wither away, with the netizens’ curiosity lost and the knowledge section polluted by cunning keywords marketers. Holistically, the curation is superceding the journalism. If people are continually choosing the curation media, most news media will disappear. A very few news media carrying the traditional functions of facts-gathering and objective analyses would survive in offering their contents for the very smaller groups demanding objective information such as business persons, investors, politicians, specific groups in needs of their jobs.

And what is worse, the news media offering rumor-like information, and sectarian voices for the curation media will survive like wild weeds. In Korea, the latter are already prospering with unfortunately neutral news media losing their readerships. These bad news media are writing anything aggressively and threateningly more and more. They even have the posture that objectivism and neutralism are ‘rubbish’.

It could be natural that the mass are slanting toward the curation, because the curation is convenient with the whole displaying of news, and satisfied with the same parochialism.

The problem is whether the curation model under the weakening journalism is helpful or detrimental to the community. The answer is, the curation is damaging the sound ecosystem of the community. The curation model is deforming the community. The curators do not go into the scene, sitting in the safe area, so they do not feel and share the hearts and sadness, isolation of the people concerned.

The inventors of the internet could not have expected this malfunction of the easy curation of journalism and knowledge. (The end)
