The Causes of Sony Difficulties

Sony’s problem, if speaking by one word, is ‘failure of sustainability’. The ‘sustainability’ is whoever wants to have it, as if humans wish to live forever. As an organization or a society or a nation which many persons and generation by generation can involve, those are not thought impossible to live continuously. But what those realize ‘sustainability’ is a very, very difficult thing.

What is the first impressive feature when seeing Sony and the other big companies, which once had had their tremendous competition in the world? It looks an excessive self-pride. Historically, we already know the Japanese pride, Kamikage, hara-kiri (disemboweling oneself). They dislike ‘humiliation’, ‘defeat’, so choose suicide.

The ‘sustainability’ begins by recognizing ‘defeat’ ‘mistake’ ‘fault’. The ‘sustainable’ organization thinks that ‘suicide’ is not a solution, but only self-extinction.

The Japanese self-pride achieved the climax of their technologies, but the culminating position itself deters needed innovation.

Today in the knowledge and information age, the learning and diffusion of edgy technologies are too easy and speedy, moreover the technology is only an element of the whole resources. As a matter of fact, scholars willingly teach their foreign descendants their knowledge, and entrepreneurs transfer their technology and factories to emerging countries for their profit. Also, you are not able to hamper the contributions of retired engineers and managers. In other words, the Japanese strong points can be said not differentiated ones.

Despite this circumstance, Sony seems obsessive about technologies and external influences of high technologies. Why is their sight so narrow and stuffy? Easterners are not yet accustomed to science, truth, and universal value. They stick to old-fashioned values like national power and empire authority. They do not consider individual happiness, study for the truth itself. Due to these thinking frame and poorness of value goals, the Japanese, the most excellent student among the Eastern countries, hastens to run after anyone’s heels.

In my opinion, South Korea, China, and India should confront the long recession caused by the lack of sustainability earlier than Japan now experiences.

Easterners must still learn philosophy, methodology, systematic ways of thinking from the Westerner. Do not say ‘The Asia Era.’ (The end)
